Health Innovation North West Coast brings more than just innovators and businesses together with the NHS. Sometimes we bring them to each other.
Recognising the potential mutual benefit, Indi Singh, Commercial Programme Manager, brought clinician/innovator Dr Pete Naylor and his Snorgo innovation to Passion for Life Healthcare, a health and wellness business, which has a range of sleep products that they sell both online and through large retailers.
It was a collaboration that immediately made sense, and has resulted in very positive sales over the past year, and contributed to the Office of Life Science’s objective of delivering economic growth.
Richard Wiffen, owner of Passion for Life, says: “As a daytime sleep treatment, Snorgo is a great complement to our existing product range, particularly our night treatments. We have seen many customers try these together.”
Passion for Life also educates people about sleep solutions through its mobile app, SoundSleep, which helps people understand their individual sleeping patterns. The app listens to their breathing and snoring over a series of nights to form a picture of their sleep and then makes recommendations that may improve sleep quality. This app was developed over several years in collaboration with Sheffield University.
Richard says offering Snorgo through the app, which has had 80,000 downloads, has been really effective because it helps identify the right people for the product. People often get better results from Snorgo if they use it with the app.
Pete says: “Passion for Life has commercial sleep aid experience, and I am very pleased to see Snorgo get into the hands of more people who can benefit from it.”
The people it helps will only increase next year as Passion for Life also has plans to bring Snorgo to the American market.
Health Innovation North West Coast is now working with Passion for Life to investigate the creation and funding of a research study for the use of oral devices to address sleep issues, before referrals to secondary care for sleep studies and the use of CPAP machines, which Passion for Life says has a 70 to 80 per cent drop-off usage rate after two years.
