The shortlist has been announced for this year’s NHS in the North Excellence in Supply Awards, celebrating inspirational examples of businesses, third sector organisations and the NHS working together to improve patient care and support health and care staff during COVID-19.

The awards are for any organisation which currently supplies goods, works or services to NHS trusts in the North, and any NHS trust in the North. Finalists will be selected from the shortlist and the winners will be announced live on YouTube and Twitter on 22 October.

This year, in recognition of the response of the health and care sector to COVID-19, the awards will consist of three categories:

  • Fighting the virus, recognising organisations demonstrating innovation in supply of a product, process or service which directly supported the response of the health and care system to the virus.
  • Supporting the system, recognising organisations demonstrating innovation in supporting, enhancing or transforming existing areas of health and care or services that were impacted by COVID-19.
  • NHS procurement heroes, recognising NHS procurement teams or members of procurement teams who have provided exceptional support to their trust during COVID-19.

Mick Guymer, Chair of the Northern Customer Board, said: “This year’s awards shortlist showcases some of the pioneering collaborations between suppliers and the NHS in the North which are having a real impact in terms of our response to COVID-19.”

Dr Liz Mear, Chief Executive of the Innovation Agency, said: “The shortlisted organisations for this year’s awards demonstrate how integral excellence in supply is to good quality healthcare. NHS trusts in our region have established ground-breaking initiatives through excellent relationships with organisations large and small. These relationships have sustained the region’s response to COVID-19, and I look forward to celebrating the hard work and innovation which we’ve seen throughout the crisis.”

Richard Deed, Associate Director of Industry at Health Innovation Manchester, said: “Health Innovation Manchester has been privileged to have worked with many NHS suppliers, both large and small on sourcing and procuring appropriate and innovative products and services to address the significant demands placed on the NHS during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

“These awards provide the opportunity to publicly recognise the work that has been delivered throughout the crisis by the NHS clinical and procurement teams and their many suppliers.”

Richard Stubbs, Chief Executive Officer at Yorkshire & Humber AHSN said: “Innovation and creativity have been essential components of the response of the health and care system to COVID-19. This shortlist demonstrates the value of effective relationships between NHS trusts and suppliers. I congratulate all shortlisted organisations, and look forward to showcasing just some of the work that's been undertaken in our region this year.”
