Health Innovation North West Coast has two Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Senates (PIES) which meet bi-monthly to discuss North West Coast healthcare projects and the development of Health Innovation North West Coast programmes.
One Senate covers Lancashire and South Cumbria and the other is for Cheshire and Merseyside.
Patient and public representatives bring their unique perspective to our projects, and while each has different experiences, all are united in their desire to help improve healthcare across the North West Coast.
The Senates enable us to involve people from all walks of life in the development of innovations including co-production, testing and take part in expert groups which will benefit our population.
Input from members has included:
- Development of a smartphone app wizard to record patient information sharing preferences for sharing healthcare data
- Testing and providing feedback on apps and devices and technologies
- Proofreading and editing public-facing questionnaires and literature for websites and leaflets
- Creating a survey for the Connected Health Cities project to discover people’s views on data-sharing
- Sitting on interview panels to recruit new Health Innovation North West Coast members
- Taking part in patient and public forums to help shape new systems and sites within the North West including the new Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool
Public Involvement and Engagement Framework
The Public Involvement and Engagement Senates have helped to develop the public involvement and engagement aims and objectives for Health Innovation North West Coast through the Public Involvement and Engagement Framework.
About Senate members
Senate members come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of experience as patients, carers, roles within the community and also as advocates from within health and social care as professionals.
Become a Senate member
If you would like to become more actively involved in providing a public voice on our work as part of the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Senates, we are looking for volunteers with all levels of experience.
Volunteers can dictate their level of involvement - from attending meetings to completing questionnaires and telephone interviews or sitting on expert groups.
How you can get more involved
Residents in Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire or South Cumbria who would like to learn more about getting involved, can email our Patient and Public Involvement Lead, Debbie Parkinson.
