An overview of the RESTORE2 tool and the necessary skills and knowledge to apply the tool in practice.

 

The resources accessible on this page are intended to:

  • To provide an understanding of the advantages of applying the RESTORE2 tool to recognise and react to the unwell resident.

  • Train staff on the steps and processes of applying the RESTORE2 tool in practice, including soft signs, an overview of NEWS2, as well as SBARD as an escalation and communication aid.

  • Support staff to apply the RESTORE2 tool to their practice to ensure early and appropriate intervention.

  • Undertake scenarios to ensure that staff are comfortable with using the tool.

RESTORE2 resources for care settings

 

RESTORE2 resources for care settings are available to download free of charge - please see the menu to the right. Please note: for these resources to be used effectively it is essential that you take part in the online RESTORE2 training sessions.

 

For all Care Homes:

 

For Care Homes that take Observations and will be using RESTORE2:

 

We also have a range of RESTORE2 posters available for those using the full tool, please feel free to print and share around your home:

 

For Care Homes that do NOT take Observations and will be using RESTORE2 Mini:

 

An initial supply of Restore2 charts was provided to Clinical Commissioning Groups and/or Local Authority’s and/or Primary Care Networks – who will facilitate delivery. Beyond this, paper chart supply will be dependant on local agreements or can be printed off directly (must be in colour) or purchased and ordered via a printing company (NHS Creative is the organisation that printed the initial supply).

Please note: If staff have an existing nhs.net account they will be able to access this training by signing up with their nhs.net email address. For anyone without an nhs.net account, licenses can be arranged through the Health Innovation North West Coast free of charge. If you would like access to this, please let us know.

  • The NEWS2 app for phones and iPad can be found here.
  • NEWS2: the benefits of standardization can be found here. This video explains why the National Early Warning Score was developed; how it can be used to identify acute deterioration, including sepsis and the benefits of a standardized early warning system.
  • E-learning Recognising and Responding to the Unwell Person in Community Settings is available on the Health Education England e-Learning for Health platform https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/
    • In order to access any e-LfH programme, you will need an e-LfH account. If you do not have one, then you can register yourself. It is free and you do not need an NHS.net email account.
    • If you already have an account with e-LfH, then you can enrol on to the News and Deterioration programme by logging in to the e-LfH Hub, selecting My Account > Enrolment and selecting the programme. You can then access the programme immediately in the My e-Learning section.
      • Search for: Deterioration, NEWS and Sepsis in Care Homes
      • Select: News and Deterioration > Deterioration, NEWS and Sepsis in Care Homes
      • Select: Recognising and Responding to the Unwell Person in Community Settings
    • The Recognising and Managing Deterioration e-learning programme is available to the health and care workforce via the e-Learning for Healthcare Hub.
  • E learning STANDARDISING THE ASSESSMENT OF ACUTE-ILLNESS SEVERITY IN THE NHS The National Early Warning Score (NEWS2) eLearning programme ensures staff across the NHS operate using the same language to provide patients with the right care at the right time.
